Tried & Tested – Indigo Tie Dye Workshop in Lantau Island

fullsizerender-12-copy

I have written about an indigo tie dye workshop in my previous post and have finally tried it myself. The above are our results, which we are very happy with! Take a guess which piece takes more time and effort… the t-shirt is the easiest one to prep before dying, while the minimalistic looking cushion covers were very complicated to achieve.

It was a fun day out under the perfect weather. We had the workshop in this peaceful hut, where we were greeted by Sunny, a cute shy dog. The owner Max was friendly and helpful, and he offered to pick up attendants (by car) from the closest bus stop 2km away (if you opt to take a bus there). We were taught the brief history and recipe of the dye, and of course, the methods and tricks to design the patterns. It wasn’t easy at all! But the instructors were all giving great assistance.

This workshop is located in a hidden part of Lantau Island, 3 mins walk from a nice beach. It is around 30mins cab ride (approx. HK$150) from Tung Chung cable car taxi stand. We went on a Saturday, when everyone was competing for one of the 75 blue cabs in Lantau. If you are planning to go, I would strongly suggest to call and book your blue cab at +852 29841328 15mins ahead.

The class was about 2.5-3hrs, and completely worth it. They offer private classes with minimum 12pax. Go try yourself and let me know what you think!
