Barcelona is a city I love and hate – for the design and amazing weather that I would miss.
I am sharing my private list of design hotels compiled when I was planning for my Barcelona trip… simply because they are too good not to be discovered! Let me know your thoughts if you have tried any of them – I have personally stayed in the cool-kids-only Casa Bonay, which was great, but would love to try out the rest at some point!

Rooms: Set in a neoclassical building which opened its doors in 1869, this cool hotel in the Dreta de l’Eixample neighbourhood is a 3-minute walk from a metro station and a 13-minute walk from lively Plaça de Catalunya. Opened in early 2016 by Inés Miró-Sans, who worked in Ace Hotel in New York for three years, this hotel offers well-designed rooms, with original mosaic floors, and a grown-up hipster vibe. Some rooms feature yoga mats, while upgraded rooms add terraces, balconies, sitting areas and/or outdoor showers. Their selection of in-room magazines are superb too!
Facilities: Amenities include a juice/coffee bar and a rooftop terrace, as well as 2 refined restaurants featuring a midcentury modern vibe. What’s more, they provide a space for an in-hotel book store and local-design shop at the lobby. If you are a cyclist, ask the staff at the concierge if they could lend you a bike, as there were always a few at the lobby.
Rooms: This design hotel is right next to Plaza Catalunya and within easy reach of the city’s Gothic and El Born quarters, in the centre of Barcelona. All rooms are soundproofed, accompanied by a flat-screen satellite TV and marble bathroom.
Facilities: It has a rooftop sun terrace and offers free Wi-Fi. There is a stylish glass-roof restaurant offering Mediterranean dishes made with local market products, and can provide special diet meals on request. Cocktails are available at the bar. Public areas include a library with sofas and a pleasant garden area. There is no swimming pool at the hotel – all guests, however, can use the facilities at the nearby Holmes Place Fitness Centre for a small fee. Bicycle rental is available at the 24-hour reception.
Location: Hotel Pulitzer Barcelona, Calle Bergara, 808002 Barcelona, Spain
Rooms: There are a total of 81 rooms in this hotel. Many of the suites are split-level lofts with African zebrawood floors, oversized bathrooms outfitted in white marble, leather sofas, and wireless internet capability. Breakfast serves until 1pm for the late wakers.
Facilities: There are two restaurants, one Mediterranean and the other Asian-influenced, serve classics-with-a-gourmet-twist cuisine. In summer, the Asian restaurant serves by the pool.
